Healthy recipes: smoothies

A couple of healthy smoothies that are the perfect snack or stop-gap during the day.

Afternoon citrus


A high citrus and high energy smoothie recipe, that is perfect to carry you from the lunch to dinner.

Smoothie Ingredients:

  • 1 medium banana
  • 1 cup of passion fruit
  • 1 cup of pineapple juice
  • 1 cup of frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1 cup of ice
  • Squirt of lime juice (optional)

Blitz up for 1-2 minutes and add ice or water desired thickness.

Morning berries

Ready in 3-4 minutes with a little practice you'll be making these in 2 minutes. A perfect start to the day, that will leave you feeling awake and vibrant.

Smoothie Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of frozen berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and/or strawberries)
  • 1 scoop of whey powder
  • 1 Tbs. flaxseed oil
  • 1Tbs. ground flaxseed
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 1 pack of Stevia
  • 8 ice cubes

Blitz up for 1-2 minutes and add ice or water desired thickness.

Soup

Sweet potato with bite. An easily prepared soup that tastes great.

Ingredients

40g/1½ butter
½ onion, sliced
1 garlic clove, crushed
4tsp cumin seeds
½ sweet potato, peeled and sliced
250ml/9fl oz water, boiling
1 chicken stock cube
1 tbsp yoghurt

Method

1. Melt the butter in the pan and add the onion and garlic and soften.
2. Place the cumin seeds in a pan and dry fry then for 2 to 3 minutes until they release their aroma.
3. Add the cumin seeds to the soup.
4. Add the potato and water with the chicken stock cube and stir.
5. Simmer for 10 minutes or until the sweet potato is soft.
6. Transfer to a blender and purée.
7. Serve with a dollop of yoghurt.
