Achieving Goals

The main purpose of a personal trainer should be to help their clients achieve their goals. Tone fitness takes a straight forward approach to this.

  1. Discuss and set goals.
  2. Fitness assessment.
  3. Testing and goal setting review.

Goal setting explained

Achieving your goals is not something that happens overnight it takes time and work to do this. When working with a personal trainer they should be able to tell you how realistic goals are and an approximate timeframe. In order to keep things in perspective 3 types of goal setting are applied to each client. Goals will vary with each client so the example given is for someone trying to lose weight and improve fitness.

Short term goals (1-3) months
To be able to jog for 30 minutes. Reduce body fat by 2-3 percent. Reduce weight by 5% and maintain.

Medium term goals (3-9) months
Complete a 10 k run. Reduce body fat by 3-5% Reduce weight by 10% and maintain

Long term goals (12 + months)
Complete 10 km run in under 60 minutes. Complete a half marathon. Achieve target body fat. Achieve target weight and maintain.

Fitness assessments explained

When starting training with new clients a system needs to be put in place to measure results achieved and progress. Dependant on the clients needs one or several of the following are used;

  • Body fat measurement (callipers)
  • Weight
  • Cardio test (current fitness)
  • Circumference measurements(hips, waist, thighs etc)

Testing and goal setting review explained

At intervals agreed with the client fitness assessments are retaken and once goals are achieved new benchmarks are be set.
